As of August 8, 2016, NCCU Chancellor Deborah Saunders-White, who was diagnosed with kidney cancer last year, has taken a medical leave of absence to focus on healing and recovery. In her absence, Saunders-White appointed Johnson O. Akinleye, the Provost and Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, to serve as Acting Chancellor.
