VIDEO FEATURE: “Akeelah and the Bee,” NCCU theater’s latest production

Students and faculty from the N.C. Central University Department of Theater and Dance spent August and September preparing for their adaptation of Doug Atchison’s “Akeelah and the Bee.”

Directed by Department Chair Stephanie “Asabi” Howard, the play is a story of a young girl overcoming the odds. It premiers tonight (Friday) at 8 p.m. in the Farrison-Newton Auditorium.

Performances will also take place Oct. 1, 7, and 8 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 2 and 9 at 3 p.m. at the same location. Admission in free, but donations are encouraged at the door.
