In a 10-minute speech on Oct. 15 N.C. Central University Chancellor Debra Saunders-White announced that she had been diagnosed with kidney cancer in May. She said she is undergoing chemotherapy at UNC Health Care, that her prognosis is good, and that she will remain on the job. In her announcement she quotes former first lady Eleanor Roosevelt: “You have to accept whatever comes. The only important thing is that you meet it with courage and the best that you have.”
