Chicken Wednesday fashion

October 19, 2016

Denim, denim, denim. It rings through the air like a bad ‘Mario’ soundtrack. Distressed, dark wash, boyfriend galore.

Paired with Adidas Originals, Perspex ankle booties, lace-up flats, the latest ‘Fenty’ by Puma Creepers, and more.

The newly inducted chill in the air has brought with it a season that is highly regarded among fashion forward millennials: fall.

At North Carolina Central University, style is a language that is understood by few, yet perpetuated by many.

Trends are shared, witnessed, and copied within a week’s time-span.

This fall, while many are repeats of looks we lived for last year (ankle boots, neutral colors, monochromatic ensembles, strategic layering, and celebrity inspired makeup), this year’s fashion week brought with it silhouettes, colors, and garments that make last year’s trends seem so passé’.

Crisp, fall, air brings with it coats, dusters, and jackets that have been kept in the closet just waiting to be seen again since last fall.

Shades of orange, yellow, and brown set the backdrop, arranged in a way that resembles the view through a kaleidoscope. Like the color that is found within the trees, fall 2016’s color palette host’s hues of green, yellow, orange, brown, and red.

Colors like “spicy mustard,” “warm taupe,” “dusty cedar,” “aurora red,” and “potters clay,” each reflect what is seen when walking out of your front door.

This season’s runways heavily incorporated trends that were prevalent around this time last year.

However, a touch of sophistication was applied. With the release of Puma’s Fall 2016 line, curated by international recording artist Rihanna, sportswear has surfaced as the new chic.

Track pants or jackets are now paired with chiffon tops or pieces of lingerie. Slides which were previously worn only on “chill days” have now been adorned with faux fur and glamorously styled in a variety of ways.

One of the primary keys to a balanced wardrobe is mixing it up.

Remember, don’t only take my word for it, solely.

Fashion is never about following the social norms to a tee. It’s about taking trends and displaying them to reflect YOUR personal style.

Individuality is imperative; now get to work.

Until next time, dolls,

Stay Chic.
